Inspired by the awesome landscapes of the Kimberley region in Western Australia, where the rugged beauty of the land speaks. The piece captures the raw, unyielding power of the region’s landscapes—its deep gorges, towering sandstone cliffs, and winding rivers, all of which have been shaped by millennia of geological and cultural forces.
These earthy tones are evoking the tranquil yet powerful presence of the Ord and Fitzroy Rivers.
As per my normal landscapes, I've added a horizon line to show depth of field and just how expansive this area of land really is.
The use of this landscape tucked in just behind the ranges invites you to look beyond the physical landscape to a vast, open sky that seems to stretch on endlessly. The light in the piece fluctuates between the bright, golden warmth of the midday sun and the cooler, muted tones of the early morning or late afternoon, capturing the Kimberley’s ever-changing light conditions.
